How to Change the Code on a Garage Door Opener Keypad

A quick refresher on changing your keypad code from outside the garage when you know the current code.

Step by step

  1. Enter the current code

Type the existing code, then press pound (#).

  2. Enter the new code

Type the new four-digit code and press Enter.

  3. Test it

Enter the new code to make sure the door runs.

Don't know the current code? You'll need to reset it from inside the garage using the learn button on the opener.

Filmed in 2012. The basics haven't changed, but newer doors and openers may differ a little. Springs and cables are under high tension, so never adjust them yourself.
